Austin, TX (Sports Network) - University of Texas junior quarterback
Vince Young will skip his final year of eligibility and make himself available
for the 2006 NFL Draft.
|
Will Vince Young be the first pick in the first round of the 2006 Draft?
|
The signal-caller announced his intentions at a Sunday afternoon news
conference, just four days after leading the Longhorns to their first national
championship since 1970.
Young scored twice in the final 4:03, including an eight-yard, game-winning
touchdown run with 19 seconds left, to beat USC, 41-38, for the national title
on Wednesday.
The Houston, Texas native set a Rose Bowl record with 467 yards of total
offense in the game.
Young ends his illustrious career at Texas as the all-time leader in total
offense (9,167 yards), career touchdowns (81) and career rushing touchdowns by
a quarterback (37), while compiling a school-best 30-2 record.
The quarterback had a record-setting 2005 season, becoming the only player in
NCAA history to pass for 3,000 yards (3,036) and rush for 1,000 (1,050) in
one season.
Young will likely be a top-five pick in the upcoming draft.
