Unusual Suspects Land Seahawks a Playoff Win
In one of the lower scoring Seahawks games of the season, the Hawks pulled off their first playoff win in six years over the Washington Redskins. After trying, begging, and pulling out every trick in the book, it was impossible to find a ticket for less than $300 in the lower level. Even ticket master refused to pick up the phone at 10 AM last Monday, or offer anything online, as promised.
Either way, those who were at the game saw a great match up at Quest Field and were in the middle of a wonderfully loud fan base. Those watching from their homes were still able to watch the game and enjoy it without the downpour, but had to watch and listen to the banter of Tony Saragossa, and of course missed out on the company of the wonderful Seattle fans. It was a low scoring game for the Seahawks with the final score being 20-10, just barely beating the nine point spread.
The main story of the game was Shawn Alexander's concussion, and his two fumbles. There were no other turnovers in the game, but a couple big plays that led to the final victory. Since Alexander was out for the remainder of the game, the Skins were expecting the pass. This is a fair assessment, if you don't have Mack Strong on your team to run the ball. Strong had a huge run for a first down and gain with less than six minutes left in the game. This blow to the Skins defense was the final turning point in the game and sealed the deal in this history making experience.
Not only is Strong a key player in every game, and this game was no exception, but a number of other players stepped up to the plate to make this win a reality. Lofa Tatupu led the team with 10 tackles, and maintained a demanding presence on the field at all times. Mo Morris stepped up to the plate in the running back position and had a key 16 yard reception in the fourth quarter. Darrell Jackson had a few huge receptions for gains, no dropped balls, and had solid play the entire 60 minutes. D.J. was a key in Seattleís offense, as was Joe Jurevicius with a couple huge catches. JJ plays with so much emotion and strength itís hard not to get goose bumps watching him play, especially when he makes a great catch. All in all, it was a great game to watch, and the Hawks played strong and with great sportsmanship, which are two things crucial to have in a/our world-class organization.
Of course an unfortunate injury, one thing was assured to answer the question in many peopleís minds: The Seahawks can win without Shawn Alexander. On top of it all, they made history with the win, and are looking forward to challenging another competitor at Quest Field next Saturday.
We are looking forward to seeing Seahawks Ownwer Paul Allen on the field again next weekend, as he is the reason the Hawks are still in Seattle, and ultimately, the man behind the success and incredible aura Seattle is carrying because of this team. Thank you Mr. Allen, and go Hawks!
