DAVIE, Fla. (Aug. 3, 2005) -- The Miami Dolphins
signed eight-year veteran guard Frank Middleton. To make room for Middleton on the roster, the team waived wide receiver Ronald Bellamy.
Middleton spent the past four years with Oakland, during which time he
played in 46 regular-season games, including 43 starts at both right and
left guard. In 2004, he started the first seven games of the season
before being placed on the injured reserve list with a quadriceps
injury. The Raiders released him Feb. 28.
Middleton, 30, began his career with Tampa Bay, who made him a
third-round draft choice in 1997. Overall in his eight NFL seasons, he
has appeared in 109 regular-season contests, starting 93 of them. He
also has started seven of the nine playoff games in which he has
appeared, including two conference championship games (Tampa Bay, 1999;
Oakland, 2002), as well as a Super Bowl as a member of the Raiders
following the 2002 season. Throughout his NFL career, he has split time
between right and left guard.
Middleton (6-foot-3, 330 pounds) played two seasons at the University of
Arizona (1995-96) after transferring from Fort Scott (Kan.) Junior
College, where he also played two years. Born Oct. 25, 1974, Middleton
attended West Brook High School in his hometown of Beaumont, Texas.
